Seems every station, on the tv, is selling something, no one can be.
I totally love love love LOVE their newest album the most. I am in love with EVERY DAMN SINGLE SONG on that album. I don’t care if you say it’s too commercialised, it’s just gotten a bigger audience that’s all. The songs really touch me and that’s what matters to me. The songs really have a message and I hear it every time.
One song makes me talk to everybody about war, about guns, about the weapon industry.
One song inspired me to write a paper, to get a good grade in school.
One song made me see how shady the newspapers are, another about how bad advertisements are. I never really watched them anyway but reading about how badly they influence others just left me shocked.
And so on, and so on, there are meanings behind all the songs.
They are catchy, but they have a voice. And who cares that other punk bands don’t normally have videos out? Isn’t it great that a political band finally is heard? Finally gets the attention it should get?
Of course I also love the old stuff but I have to admit that this album just touches me more, the songs are all so great, the instruments are better and the vocals are better and the essays and everything and the tour and whatnot it’s all fantastic. Sure, The Terror State was awesome too but this is even a step further.
I know you all want me to shut up but I can’t. I can’t possibly tell you how deeply the video for This Is The End (For You My Friend) just touched me.
I really want to see them again, to be in the crowd and just sing a long, shout along, feel one with the people that I can relate to, that feel the same.
I AM politically active and I DO protest, I do care about shit and I do listen, and try to pass it on.
And still it saddens me everyday that people don’t think the same. People don’t feel the same.
So maybe yeah the songs aren’t about drinking beer and passing out. And maybe they don’t want you to smoke [[not even because they're lecturing but just because otherwise JUSTIN WILL DIE MMMMMK]] and maybe they tell you to respect each other, to stand up against things.
And maybe you hate them.
Because they aren’t the newest emo shit. Or because they don’t wallow in self-pity. Or because they don’t have grunt-y bits or hard bass lines.
But their lyrics are deep too, and their bass is the funkiest shit ever made and totally inspires me to play music so just listen for once.
I hate it when people are all “I’m openminded” and still they hate on a band because a] they’re “sellout” b] they make catchy music that everyone could listen to. I MEAN YOU DON’T HAVE TO GRUNT/SCREAM/CRY TO BE DEEP!
But on to the point:
I remember when I saw Anti-Flag live for the first time, January this year [[so sad I didn't see them earlier, sigh, my life is so much better now ;P ;P]] and For Blood And Empire wasn’t out yet.
But they still played some “new songs” and one of them was This Is The End. Seeing as all their damn songs are catchy I pretty much sang along with everything that night, even if I had never heard it, and so the same with this song. I clearly remember Chris looking at me [[I was practically standing next to the guy]] and singing and smiling and being like “heh she digs the song” before I even knew what the song was about.
So I watched it and when the words “This Is The End… of self mutilation” came on my screen, I knew it right away: Anti-Flag is the reason I listen to happy music. My happy music [[Sum 41, GC, SP]] all had turned emo over the past years… but now I had a new thing to hold on to.
They have enlightened my life for the past 8 months and I only just realized it. I found new spirit in politics, in trying to be vegan, in protest. They inspire me to do research, not only for school but also for myself, to understand things, to change the world.
I have always aspired to change the world. And because of them I know I can do it.
Then there’s the other, not so deep, side of the video: the live part.
It has 723749237432947 close ups of Dos, which is fantastic and makes me happy, but it also captures the life show in a superduper way – very close up and intense – and makes me excited for over two months. It’s going to be two extremely long months, but I’m going to see Anti-Flag live again.
Seeing Anti-Flag live, for me, is like Rob seeing Alexisonfire live. The rare moment of being truly truly happy. The being truly happy already comes whenever I’m at a show. But feeling like belonging there, like the right place to be, like knowing all the lyrics, like knowing what it is about, like feeling connected and just like having the best fucking time of your life, makes me the happiest person on earth.
I don’t think I can capture all this.
I don’t know why I wrote all this. But please just take a look at the video.
You can find it here.
Thanks.
